Published May 28, 2026May 28, 2026

To add an Employer Retirement Account, go to Current Finances in the left sidebar, choose Investments, click + Add Investments, then select Employer Retirement Accounts. Want more details? Check out what you will need to add below.

Account Types

When you add an Employer Retirement Account you will need to choose from the following options: 401(k), Roth 401(k), 403(b), Roth 403(b), 457(b), Roth 457(b), or 401(a). Note that these are common retirement accounts in the US.

Additionally, above the Owner dropdown menu you will see Cost: $0. Click on that to input the amount paid for all holdings in this account, i.e. the cost basis. This is used when calculating capital gains tax on withdrawals.

401(k), 403(b) & 457(b)

When you add a traditional Employer Retirement Account, a new line item will show on your Investments page. You will need to update your total balance and the owner, i.e. you or your spouse if applicable.

Roth 401(k), Roth 403(b), Roth 457(b)

When you add a Roth Employer Retirement Account, a new Roth line item will show on your Investments page. Similar to the account above, you will need to update your total balance and the owner, i.e. you or your spouse if applicable.

Additionally, above the Owner dropdown menu you will see Contributions: $0. Click on that to input your total past contributions. Past contributions will help determine the taxable portion of any early withdrawals. If you’re already over retirement age, this value may not affect your results.
