How to Update Current Finances

Published Sep 8, 2026Sep 8, 2026

Current Finances is where you can find a complete record of your net worth, assets, liabilities, and individual account balances. It’s not a plan itself.

Note

Any plan created continuously syncs with Current Finances.

Where to Find Current Finances

Current Finances is in the left sidebar, below Dashboard and above Progress. Opening it shows three circles – Net Worth, Assets, and Liabilities – followed by totals for Savings, Investments, Real Assets, and Unsecured Debts.

How Current Finances Impacts Plans

When you build plans, they pull directly from Current Finances. For example, if you delete an account from Current Finances it will automatically be removed from your plans.

Note

Plans with custom starting conditions will not sync with Current Finances, since the custom starting conditions will override Current Finances.

Adding an Investment Account

Let’s add a taxable investment account with a $5,000 balance. From Current Finances, click the investments total, scroll down, and click + Add Investment. Enter the $5,000 balance and set the owner – this can be an individual or joint if you are planning for a couple. Cost basis defaults to 50% of the balance (i.e. $2,500). If your actual cost basis is different (i.e. $2,000), click into that field, update it, and click Save. The three-dot menu on the account also lets you edit the cost basis, add notes, rearrange accounts, or remove the account entirely.

Note

If you already have a plan, that new investment account syncs in automatically – no extra step needed to add it to your plan.

How Current Finances Impacts Progress Points

Editing a balance in Current Finances also creates a Progress Point with today’s date – a saved snapshot used on the Progress page to track your trends over time. You can delete individual progress points from the Progress page, or turn off the Add Progress Points Automatically setting there if you’d rather log changes manually.
